Global Ambassadors day three

Today was all about resistance and resistance movements. The history, the present. We started off at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Educational Center. From there we moved on to the Bronx to join a protest in front of the courthouse, demonstrating the killing of Deborah Danner, a 66 year old NYC woman with a well documented history of mental illness who was killed by a police officer in her own home. Currently we are in the middle of a workshop at Freedom Hall in Harlem, looking at the problem of police brutality in this city and methods of survival for black and brown people when they find themselves confronted by the police.

I don´t know if our group members have the ability to comprehend cases of blatant injustice like those of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner or the one we just found ourselves protesting against today as these kinds of obvious crimes are difficult to fathom for anyone living in Europe not being confronted with this kind of criminal justice system but i most certainly look forward to the debrief.

Heute ging es um das Thema Widerstand und Widerstandsbewegungen. In der Vergangenheit und der Gegenwart. Dazu trafen wir uns zuerst vor dem Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Educational Center. Von dort fuhren wir in die Bronx zu einer Protestkundgebung vor der City Hall rund um den Fall Deborah Danner, einer 66 Jahre alten Frau die bereits seit vielen Jahren mit den Folgen ihrer psychischen Erkrankung zu kämpfen hatte. Ein Fakt der auch der Polizei bekannt war, von der sie in ihrer eigenen Wohnung erschossen wurde. Derzeit befinden wir uns in einem Workshop in der Freedom Hall in Harlem in dem wir uns mit der Problematik der Polizeigewalt in dieser Stadt auseinandersetzen und Methoden erlernen für braune und schwarze Menschen um eine Auseinandersetzung mit der Polizei zu überleben.
